Australian rockers 5 Seconds of Summer made their way to Boston for two sold-out nights at MGM music hall at Fenway. We were there for night one and all of the exciting festivities that happened. Fans were lined up early for a chance to see their favorite boys put on a fantastic show.
Before Luke, Calum, Ashton, and Michael would take the stage as 5SOS, the night opened up with a stellar performance from rockers Meet Me @ The Altar. The girls knew how to put on a show and get the crowd rowdy early on in the night. They even threw in a few covers of a Kelly Clarkson song, an Avril Lavigne song, and a Jonas Brothers song to the crowd’s surprise. There couldn’t have been a better way to start a show off.
It was finally time for 5SOS to take the stage and you could feel the anticipation and excitement of the crowd. Their fans could hardly wait any longer. The curtain which read “The 5 Seconds of Summer Show” quickly dropped to the ground, the crowd roared loudly, and out came the boys. They started their set off with “Bad Omens”, then went into “2011” with confetti shooting out of the canons and into the crowd. It was a delight to see everyone get covered in confetti with a smile on their faces singing along.
Fans were in for a treat that night as the band played a total of 28 songs that were pulled from pretty much all of their discography, so there was a song for everyone there. One of the funniest moments of the night had to be when they brought out a giant inflatable dice to throw into the crowd to let them decide a song they would play. The song ended up being “Wrapped Around Your Finger”, which they haven’t played live since 2016. The crowd was loving every moment of it.
5SOS sure know how to put on a fantastic show every time they play Boston and this had to be one of their best yet. Their stage presence is unmatched, as well as their stage setup and visuals, which featured a checkerboard floor, amps that acted as visuals, and multiple camera angles for the video screen which gave us views you wouldn’t normally see, like right up close with Ashton’s drumming. They even had their own props when they brought out giant Ketchup and Mustard bottles to “Sauce” the crowd in confetti. It was a little play on words with their band name, which was very clever of them. Luke, Calum, Ashton, and Michael all expressed their love for Boston and had two sold out nights in a row. It was very clear they love it here and so do their fans when they come here every time. A 5SOS show is like no other and they gave everyone a night to remember for sure.
