CONCERT REVIEW: GOOSE AT THE ROADRUNNER

Goose brought its high intensity, jam-filled catchy tunes to a sold-out crowd at Boston’s Roadrunner. Coming hot off of a five-night sold-out residency at the famed Capitol Theater (where they didn’t repeat a single song), the energy in the room was palpable before the band even hit the stage.

The band stretched out the Flodown opener, which got the crowd dancing and grooving right away. The first set was over an hour long, ending with a 25-min ‘Earthling and Alien, which got funky, dark, and a bit psychedelic. It’s been fun to watch the band evolve over time and see the improvised bits get more dynamic.

After setbreak, the band came back out with ‘Creatures’, which led right into ‘Hungersite’, which got the biggest pop of the night from the crowd. After that, Peter, the band’s multi-instrumentalist, broke into ‘Red Bird, which led right into a David Gray cover, ‘Please Forgive Me’. The second set didn’t finish until after 11:30 p.m. Of course, the band came back out one last time to encore with another fan favorite, “Slow Ready”.

The band has 21 more dates left on the spring tour, with many of the shows already sold out.

Goose, the five-piece band out of Norwalk, CT, has exploded in the live music world over the past couple years. Just a few years ago, they were playing in rooms of less than 100 people. These days they are playing major venues across the country, as well as sharing the stage with some of their biggest inspirations, including the likes of Trey Anastasio, Bob Weir, and Phil Lesh.
