Alt-indie rock band, Palace, marked the halfway point of their North American tour on a packed night at Royale in Boston. Currently on tour with Human Barbie, the London-based group returned to the states less than a year later to promote an upcoming EP, led by two singles, “All We’ve Ever Wanted” and “Look How Far We’ve Come.”
Palace seems like a band that recently came onto the scene, but their history proves otherwise. Formed in 2012, the lads have spent the past decade crafting their ethereal sound into something reminiscent of early Coldplay, Tame Impala and King Krule. They have their hands in plenty of different genres that blend together seamlessly and translate even better into their live performances. Following their debut full-length, So Long Forever, the group has consistently taken their sound to different peaks and valleys, with no signs of stopping soon.
Three dim red lights adorned the stage while singer Leo Wyndham starts solo with one of their newest songs “All We’ve Ever Wanted.” A bit of a slow burner lacked no energy whatsoever as the rest of the band crashes in, bending and bouncing to the music with the crowd, before immediately cutting right into the title track from their debut record. Fans new and old had something to look forward to with such a diverse setlist, but it was clear that the audience was into it when their smash hit “Live Well” finally arrived. Wyndham turned the microphone around to the crowd and the band was nearly overpowered by the voices of nearly a thousand fans singing in unison.
The band took a beat in between songs to thank the crowd for showing up again nearly a year after their previous Boston performance at the Paradise on their Shoals tour. In a time where international touring is more difficult than ever, there is serious pressure on artists to make their investments count. A group of four friends from London expressed their sincere gratitude for being allowed the opportunity to book a successful tour, and for the crowd to show up each and every time with love and admiration. Palace wore their hearts on their sleeves, but the risk was worth it as they gave the performance of a lifetime.
The All We’ve Ever Wanted tour continues through June 24th before the band embarks on a short stretch of shows in Australia and New Zealand.
