CONCERT REVIEW: THE WEEKS AT THE SINCLAIR

The Weeks brought their Dear Bo Jackson 10-year anniversary tour to Cambridge. Accompanied by Carver Commodore and local Berklee act, ADDIE, the band is currently on tour to celebrate the release of their 2013 record, the sophomore full-length from the Mississippi quartet.

Currently based in Nashville, the band has developed their own unique sound of modern indie rock with a twist of Mississippi Delta blues. They took the opportunity to commemorate two milestones on the seven-stop tour: 10 years of Dear Bo Jackson and 14 years of what we now know as The Weeks.

Naturally, the set began with the title track of Dear Bo Jackson, led by a quiet, finger-picked intro from guitarist Sam Williams. Frantic, synchronized hits erupt from drummer Cain Barnes and bassist Damien Bone as the night leads itself into a full party. Singer Cyle Barnes dances around the stage in a sling from a recently dislocated shoulder, but the injury does little to hinder his performance.

The band has taken to social media to promote their new spin on Barnes’s injury, claiming “slings are so in right now.” Cyle later jokes about the sling, considering his brother and drummer, Cain, performed their previous Boston show in a medical boot as a result of a broken leg.

The group’s set consisted of a solid mix of tracks from Dear Bo Jackson as well as other hits from their catalog, including “Bottle Rocket” and “Comin’ Down,” and ended the night with the single “Buttons” from their debut record. The evening was topped off with a rowdy, yet warm energy that the band fostered on stage; it was clear from their performance and gratitude that The Weeks have nothing but love to give.
