SATURDAY, SEPT. 10, at the Sinclair, a Cambridge venue notorious for New American fare and live acts, hosted the Boston-based band, Couch, after the vibrant opener from The Q-Tip
Bandits. Couch lead us into the night with crowd-favorites like Still Feeling You, Stand Up,
Poems, and Saturday. The band is traveling to parts of the country for their Get off The Couch
Tour, bringing us a fusion of funk, R&B, jazz, and rock. Couch created a wholesome
environment by having the audience feel connected to the performance, often blurring the
lines between audience and stage. Notably, at one point during the performance the lead
vocalist, Tema Siegal, encouraged the crowd to sing along and instructed us to dance in a
synchronous two-step. Eric Tarlin, Couch’s saxophone guru, turned out to be a triple threat
with his many talents, aside from the Saxophone, dancing and rapping on stage. One of the
things that sets the septet band apart from other bands is their intentionality to create space
for awe-inspiring instrument solos. The crowd roared into excitement when the artist behind
the keys, Danny Silverston, performed his solo. Towards the end of the night we learned that
during the height of the pandemic the band enjoyed quarantining together in Vermont and had
periods of time where they held virtual practices. The environment was kept lively as crowds
cheered on. Thank you for an amazing show; we look forward to having you back! Needless to
say, it was a memorable night and we are so glad we got off the couch to party with you!
