From the Studio to the Stage to Boston: Bleachers Lights up MGM Music Hall

Fresh off the release of their March self-titled fourth album, alternative icons Bleachers brought their “From the Studio to the Stage” tour to Boston’s MGM Music Hall Monday, June 10.

Front man Jack Antonoff, 3x Grammy-winning Producer of the Year, knows exactly what he is doing. He has crafted the perfect ensemble with Bleachers; it was palpable in the atmosphere that they all adore what they do and have so much fun sharing it with us.

From the infectious saxophone solos by the group’s two saxophone players, to the melancholy piano songs, the six-piece band feeds off eachother’s energy in a way that creates a grand time for any onlooker. It was impossible not to dance to the beats of “Modern Girl” and “How Dare you Want More”.

Antonoff’s way of engaging the crowd was infectious, and everyone was in awe watching him pour his heart out, jam with this band, dance around the set, and head bang to every chest-hitting beat. It truly felt like witnessing a band in the studio jamming, the magic flowing, and a song being crafted. One can assume this is the whole purpose of the tour being titled “From the Studio to the Stage.” It was lively, joyous, and just FUN.

Bleachers is the kind of band that has a following of people from all walks of life. The crowd consisted of couples, parents and young children, older men, and many individuals attending alone. As the night went on and they took the stage, one thing was clear: this music is meant to be for all.

Looking around the crowd to see limited phones in sight, older folks dancing and singing every word, and parents and kids twirling around, it felt like what concerts should be all about.

Everyone was so in tune with every lyric and song, which was an incredible sight. Maybe it’s Antonoff’s praise of the East Coast and Boston as a native New Jersey-ian, that played into it all. The timeless, classic, Springsteen-esque sound Bleachers emits crafts a nostalgic feeling; one that keeps everyone coming back for more.

Antonoff is a songwriting genius, and often stopped to share with the crowd how he wrote certain songs and what they meant to him. Before he started up fan favorite “Rollercoaster,” he discussed that on June 10, 2014 the song was released, exactly 10 years ago to the day. He encouraged the crowd to get on each other’s shoulders, and give it our all. The crowd erupted, in one of those magic concert moments you think about for years to come. The same went for “I Wanna Get Better,” and of course indie hall of fame tune: “Don’t Take the Money.”

It felt like an honor to witness and experience the magic of Bleachers, and there can only be more good to come from them.

Following their Boston stop, “From the Studio to the Stage” is hitting all around the US this summer, and ending with a sold out show at MSG. Definitely not a show to miss!
