CONCERT REVIEW: TOMMY LEFROY OPENS FOR SAMIA AT THE HOUSE OF BLUES

Samia, brings her Honey tour to the city of Boston. Opening up this show is “Tomy Lefroy”, a duo composed by Wynter Bethel and Tessa Mouzourakis. Known for their alternative/indie sound, the band bring us music that is relatable and encourages the reader to participate in some deep introspection.

The two singers met back in the year 2018 in Nashville as they were both working as songwriters, and had multiple encounters before they decided to form a band. The band’s name is inspired by the man that broke Jane Austen’s heart, Thomas Langlois Lefroy. The name is a perfect fit for the duo, as they share a love for the renowned author. Many of their songs are written about the girls’ own heartbreak, and are delivered to the fans as an expression of growth and freedom.

The theme of heartbreak is present in their song “Vampires”, a song that gives start to the night, in which they talk about the aftermath of ending a relationship.  Different to the most common portrayal of a love ballad, where the singer tells the listener about their own experience. This song expresses the point of view of a person who is seeing their friend going through these emotions. Watching the duo perform this piece on stage gives the lyrics of this song a special significance, as it makes you feel they are singing it to each other. Gesture that portrays their close friendship.

Tommy Lefroy present us with their whole EP “Flight Risk” during their opening set and complement it with some of their latest released singles, like “Jericho Beach” and “Worst Case Kid”. Almost at the end of their set, the duo invites their friend and drummer, Joseph Hays, to sing a couple of songs with them. The crowd sings as they close their set with their song “Dog Eat Dog”.

The band sets up the stage for a great night of music in Boston. The relatable themes in their music and poetic song writing make this duo stand out. As they continue their tour with Samia, Tommy Lefroy will be performing in fourteen more cities across America. We are also hoping to get to see the band headline their own tour in the near future.
